“A drink please sir.” I grin.
“Anything for a pretty lady.”
He pours me a drink and hands it over, then leans over the bar and grins at me.
“You know Watts, we are right back where we started.”
“So we are. Listen, I have been thinking…I have decided to hand my ship over to Maddox.”
I gasp and reel back, I didn’t see that coming. “What?”
“I know I said a while back, that being a pirate was part of me and it is, but after seeing you in yet another pirates grips, I realized it isn’t what I want. I miss my daughter, my wife and being just a man. I have been a pirate, and I will go back out from time to time with the men but…I am done.”
“You are giving it up?” I whisper, shocked.
“Yeah, I am giving it up. I am going to buy a bar, and I am going to run it. I am going to be a dad, and pick my daughter up from school and watch her concerts. I am going to be a husband and kiss my wife each night I go to work and make crazy love to her through the day.”
I smile. “And you will be happy with that?”
“Damn happy.”
“Are you sure?”
“Jade, I have never been more sure about anything in my life. I made the decision the night you stood with a gun to your head, it hit me hard and fast, and made it so clear for me. He could have killed you, then and there, I couldn’t live with that.”
“Why Maddox? Won’t Rusty want the ship?”
“I asked him, he doesn’t want to be Captain. Maddox is young, he is strong and he fits.”
“You are really giving it all up, for us?”
“Yeah, I really am.”
I feel tears prick my eyes. “Jax, I don’t know what to say.”
“I have one more thing.”
“Oh?”
“I touched the treasure.”
I blink. “You did?”
“Yep, I want to grow old with you, like a normal person. I don’t need immortality, I don’t want it. You don’t want another gift and I accept that, so I gave it up.”
“Oh Jax, you did all that for me? Why?”
“You know on the ship, when I said I kind of wished you never got your memories back, because I wanted to be able to start again and erase the bad?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I have decided I can still do that. I don’t need to erase what is already there, I just need to create what isn’t. So, that is what I am going to do. We are going to start again, right back where it all began…here in this bar. We are going to make new memories, violence free, we are going to forget the past, the hurts and the pain. We are going to just be Jade and Jax, who meet in a bar and have a happy, care free life. It is what I want, more than anything.”
“Oh yeah?” I grin, leaning over the bar. “In that case…”
I turn and walk from the room, wait a few moments then come back in. I sit at the bar, and smile over at Jax.
“Hi there.” I grin.
“Well well, if it isn’t the princess herself. What brings such a young beauty to my bar?” Jax grins and I beam, just like the beginning.
“Just getting out you know? Are you going to offer me a drink?”
“For a pretty lady like you? Anything. What’s it going to be?”
“Whiskey neat.”
“Know what you’re getting yourself into pretty girl?” He winks.
I laugh, God he is charming. “I think so.”
“I don’t believe we have met.” He says, sliding the drink towards me, I shoot it back.
I give him my best smile. “No, I don’t think we have. My name is Jade, Jade Watts.”
“Well ain’t that a real pretty name?” He grins, extending his hand, I take it and he kisses mine softly.
“I think so, and you are?”
“How rude of me, allow me to introduce myself,” He purrs, dragging his lips across my hand. “The name is Jax, Jax Watts and it’s a God Damned pleasure to meet you darlin.”
